A Little Here, A Little There

This time of year I like to start thinking about Fall and Winter clothes. It is so darn hot right now that I am basically wearing shorts or dresses all the time and kind of getting sick of it.  So dreaming about cooler temps gets me thinking about what I want to wear in the upcoming seasons. Right now I am trying to collect things on sale that can carry me into Fall. Here is some stuff I have "collected" lately....

This is new to Old Navy but I got it 30% off! I have been searching for a vest like this and since Banana Republic's sold out I thought I should snactch it up while I can. Remember my On a Hunt post???

Some jeans from the Gap similar to this for around $20

A shirt similar to this without the eyelet for around $17 also from Gap

I thankfully had gift cards from my birthday to Gap and Nordstroms so I basically paid nothing!

And my favorite purchase so far from Nordstroms and was inspired by Kate Moss

Of course I will never look as cool as she does but I will give it a try....

Minnetonka Double Fringe Trapper Boots

I think $59 for these isn't too bad and they are super comfy! Thanks to the girls at the Nordstrom's shoe department for talking me into them! I haven't shown my husband these yet but I am sure he will hate them. Oh well, I will just tell him I am giving ode to my Native American Heritage. I am 1/16th Sioux Indian.

Piperlime and a Sneak Peak

I have been meaning to post something about Piperlime for ages! I love their website. It is so nicely organized and has a great assortment of styles and price points. They have it all clothes (men and women), shoes(kids, too) and accessories.

It is owned by Gap and they have Rachel Zoe picking her favorites. How great is that? I usually frequent the Girl on a Budget tab but they have other categories that change according to what is hot right now. For instance, 6 Fall Must Haves gives you an array of different items to choose from according to their 6 must have fall trends. I love a well organized website!

Here are some of my favorites

From the Girl on a Budget category

Rebecca Minkoff IPad Case (do you need and IPad to like this?)

Nobody has paid me to talk about Piperlime, I just like it! I like sharing things that somebody may not know about or will make their life a little easier. That's it.

Now for my house.

Well, you know how getting work done around your house goes? If they say 3 days then add one more (or maybe two). This is my case. They started last Wednesday and it is now Tuesday and my house is painted but they are just finishing little pieces here and there. It is driving me crazy! So here is a little sneak peek of what it looks like.

Not of a very good picture but it was taken from my IPhone. But it is white! I had a small panic attack (not really) the first day I came home. It is shocking but has started to grow on me. I just keep telling myself when I get everything back in and stuff on the walls it will be better.

Painting Project

If your reading this it has already begun. Three days of painting. I am a little stressed and a little excited. Stressed because I have a lively 15 month old and have to figure out what to do for three days out of the house (BTW-we are having record breaking heat). Excited for the end results.

One of my New Years Projects was to repaint our formal living room and den. After much consideration, we decided to hire people to do it because in our living room we have 20 foot ceilings. So today they are starting!

Here is a picture of before(the first 3 are before we moved in 3 years ago). The paint doesn't look too bad in the picture but it looks a little "peachy" in person, especially because the floors our orange-ish. See in the first pic the cabinet on the left? That's coming down too. It came with the house but is just awkward.

Since we don't have a lot of natural light I wanted something to brighten up the spaces. I chose (with some help from friends and family of course) Soft Chamois by Benjamin Moore.

You can barely see it. It is a pretty neutral white with a touch of gray. I am a little nervous. It is so hard to pick a color!  I am hoping it will make the floors look less orange! I will post after pics soon! Wish me luck!

Accessories: The Life of the Party

Here is my recent article from

Accessories: The Life of the Party

By now we are all in full “summer mode.” The kids are out of school, you’re busy running them around town, lounging by the pool (ha!), playdates at the park and looking forward to that much needed vacation or staycation. So the last thing on your mind while you are running out the door is what you have on. I am here to show you an easy way to make sure you look great even when you are running late.

Accessories. I am including jewelry, scarves, purses, shoe and sunglasses. If you have a good little stash at home you can make any plain old tank top look great. Yes, this can make a big difference in what you have on.

For instance, you are meeting your playgroup so you need something casual. You don’t feel like go through your closet and putting something together. If you have a plain black tank (or your favorite color tank) and a pair of shorts or a flowy skirt you can add a statement necklace and look fab. Maybe something in turquoise or coral, anything that will stand out amongst your otherwise plain outfit.  Or you have a date night with your hubby and haven’t had time to figure out what you will wear. Take the same tank top; add jeans and wedges or heels with the same necklace.  I think having 2 or 3 of these is a great asset to your wardrobe. Not into big necklaces? That’s ok, you can have the same effect with an arm full of bracelets or “bigger than you would normally wear” earrings.  Jewelry is great because you don’t have to spend a lot on it. If you find a classic piece that you love than spend a little more but for the most part you can go cheaper.

Another great accessory is a scarf. Having 4 or 5 in an array of colors can be helpful all year around. No matter how you wear them everyone looks chic in a scarf. I know it is 100 degrees outside but they are good to have at the movies, airports or on a chilly night somewhere other than Texas. I am currently looking for a good leopard print one.

Next are shoes. It seems shoes and women go well together. Remember the closet Mr. Big built for Carrie? She had a shrine for her shoe collection. Shoes can make an outfit.  If you can afford expensive shoes, I say “go for it.” I like mixing expensive things with less expensive. Shoes are great for this.  Bags fall into this category as well.  I like that you can buy a classic pair of shoes or handbag and have them for years. You may spend a lot up front but you will get good use out of them. Fear not, if a pair of $600 stilettos aren’t in your future (I am right there with you) than you can have a collection of sandals, heels and wedges to mix things up. Picture again, a plain outfit you may have and pair them with a coral (or any other color) pair of flats or a fun heel. It is that easy.

Accessories are also great to bring on a trip. You can bring a few articles of clothing and tons of jewelry and/or shoes, sunglasses or purses to mix it up. They are easy to pack and don’t get wrinkled!  I am not at all saying if you don’t wear a big necklace or a colorful bag with something simple you look bad. This is just for those of you who are wanting a little more or don’t want to go out and buy a bunch of new clothes. Accessories can make things look different.

So by now you’re getting the idea: A white t-shirt can be spiced up with jewelry, shoes, purses etc. Just remember, you don’t have to wear them all at once. “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take off one accessory” Coco Chanel. So true.

Love Kate Moss

What a style inspiration! I wish I could just throw some clothes on and look as cool as she does. She recently got married and still managed to look effortless.

Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray Alternative

I love Bumble and Bumble's Surf Spray. It is basically a concoction of salt and water that helps give you that "just left the beach" look. BB's was the first I came across but since there are plenty of alternatives. I also like Aquage's Sea Salt and Texturizing Spray.

But if you are not interested in paying around $20 than try this alternative I found on Pinterest. This looks like a good weekend assignment.

Good Hair Thursday: Anna Wintour

As the editor of Vogue, I guess you should have a signature look. Anna Wintour definitely does. Her classic bob and heavy fringe makes a statement. What do you think?

Pure Fiji Skincare Products

I have never been to Fiji but can just imagine that is is glorious. We have all seen pictures.

I was asked to sample some dreamy sounding bath and body products by Pure Fiji. I normally don't go for heavily fragrance lotions, scrubs etc. but was pleasantly surprised when I received this "little slice of island heaven" in the mail.

I was a little worried about the fragrance Pineapple but it was surprisingly a very light sophisticated scent.  I tried the Hydrating Body Lotion and the Coconut Creme Body Scrub both in Pineapple.

Pure Fiji uses the century old mixture of pure coconut oil and flower in their products. I was also worried that these products would be like the lotion you get in a hotel (a really nice one) and just good if you need a quick fix but the Body Lotion was definitely moisturizing and didn't leave your skin greasy. That is good when it is so hot outside and you feel like your moisturizer just sweats off.  It felt very luxurious.  I love that the Body Scrub was very fine. It wasn't one of those harsh scrubs. It left my skin with a little glow! The smell just reminds you of being on an island. Who doesn't love that!

The products a little pricier than your average but I would say worth it. They would be great as a gift!

Pure Fiji has an array of skin, body and hair care products in other fragrances like:Coconut, Mango, Gingerlily and Passion Flower. I think I want to try Gingerlily next!
