Master Bedroom

Today I am joining Just a Touch of Gray for Roomspirations Link Party.  Check out her blog for more bedroom inspirations.

Roomspiration

I love our bedroom! It is the perfect place to relax and read a magazine or watch one of my many shows on the DVR. As always, there is constant tweaking going on (as you will see different lampshades) but this is pretty much it.

It looks much better at nignt.

The color is Behr Contemplation. It is a blue, green, gray color depending on the lighting.
Here it is in the daytime. I changed the lampshades to white and I am searching for some new throw pillows. I want to bring in some other colors like coral or a soft goldy yellow. The bedding is from Williams Sonoma Outlet and Pottery Barn Outlet(great find!)
Ok, here is were the tweaking is coming in. The chair is my grandmothers that I will eventually recover and I just recently added another white panel from Ikea for more volume.
Here is a little space by the bed were I added a shelve and mirrors (from Target). I bought the cube from Marshalls to try to hide the ugly vent but as you can see it isn't working.

Good Hair Thursday: Braid Alternative

Braids are so in right now.  I have posted a lot about them which has lead to a lot of questions on how to do them. Well, it takes a lot of practice. So I am going to show you my "braid alternative" look. It is really simple and easy.

Just twist your hair and secure with a bobby pin. It sort of looks like a braid and is much faster. I do this when I am in a rush and my hair is dirty.

I know it is hard to see because of my dark hair but this is the best picture I got ya'll! Anyway, you can wear it down or tease the back a little an put it in a ponytail or messy bun.

What do you think?

Baby Boy Nursery

Here is my son's nursery. I am not sure what to call the style except that while planning it (boys are hard, right?) I kept thinking a "beachy, surfy, California vibe." I have no surfboards or anything about the beach in it but that was my inspiration. I didn't want a theme.

Here is a picture before he was born. So pristine. The crib is Pottery Barn and the bedding is from Land of Nod. It was so hard for me to pick a bedding. I ended up buying a burlap bed skirt from Ballard Design and rigged it into a crib skirt. I was a little obsessed with burlap at that moment but I think it gives it texture.

We painted stripes on the walls. They basically got hidden by the Ikea bookshelves but we needed storage space. The white curtains are also Ikea

Closer look at the bedding.

One of my clients gave me her pink rocking chair but when I found out I was having a boy I had a slip cover made. I found this brown matelase(sp?) for it at Joanns on clearance for like $6 a yard!

Book shelf filled with gifts, books and blankets. The picture is from Pier 1

I found this piece at TJMaxx before I was pregnant. Just waiting for the perfect place to hang it.

Here is his changing table. The wall color is the only thing I am "so-so" about. I think it is Behr Straw Basket. It is not a bad color but it looks more yellow than I wanted. It is hard to make decisions when you are pregnant!

And here is the little "destroyer." The crib has never looked the same!

My Dining Room

Today I am joining Involving Color Dining Room Link Party.

Roomspiration

I am showing off my dining room. This space does not get a lot of use but looks pretty.

I have to admit I am constantly changing what goes in between those plates. It could possibly be a gold antique mirror right now but this is the picture I have. It is a fun space to change up for the holidays. The wall color is Behr Belgium Sweet, a good neutral brown.

The curtains are from World Market along with the bamboo chairs.

The white chairs are from Ikea and the table was my grandmothers.

The scroll is random but like I said it changes.

Happy Friday!!

Good Hair Thursday: Rachael Taylor

Hello good haircut! Rachael Taylor, one of the new Charlie's Angels, walked out on stage at the Emmy's Sunday night and I thought just when my hair is getting longer I see cute short hair. She also proves my theory that blonde makes it even better.

A TJMaxx/Marshall's Success Story

I recently helped a friend spend her birthday money at Marshalls. She asked me to go with her because she always likes what I get from those places but can never find anything when she goes. Of course being the shopper that I am I said "Sure!"

As some of you may know, these are the places you have to frequent and dig. If you don't like doing either of those than you probably won't find anything. I suggest going on a Tuesday or Wednesday. They usually get new stuff in the middle of the week. Shop the women's and juniors section. You just sometimes have to be patient.

Here is what she got...

This dress was $24.99 and will look great with a denim jacket or sweater over it. The belt came with!

She also purchased two shirts (in the back). The orangish-red one is cotton sort of like a button down but more casual and no collar. I love the green and black one! It is flowy and looks expensive. The khaki sweater is a poncho! It also came in black and I might be going back to get it!

All in all she spent around $75. That is pretty good for a dress, 2 shirts and a poncho.
Keep a look out for my October article for Southlakemoms.com. It is all about finding inspiration and ideas for your closet. I will post a link when it comes out.

Fall Fashion

Fall is such a great time of the year; cool crisp weather, pumpkin patches, football, changing leaves and changes in your closet. It is so nice when you can wear jeans and a light jacket or sweater.  Before the cold front moves in, I am going to help make it easy for you to be on-trend this season. Check your closet’s first but get your list ready to do some shopping.

Here is a consolidated list of some of the trends happening this fall…

1.       Red: Across the board this trend seems to be in every magazine and fashion website I have seen. If I am being honest, red isn’t exactly my favorite color but I don’t despise it. I will probably follow the red trend with a pair shoes or a bag. If red is your favorite color, try a red dress, pants or a jacket.

2.       Southwestern Prints: This is my favorite trend this season.  Find a cool sweater or poncho (also big this season) and wear with jeans and boots

3.       High Heeled Loafers: This is part of the 70’s trend that is continuing. Most of these are stacked heeled which makes them more comfortable than stilettos. This is important when you are chasing your kids around.
4.       Leather: You may have a leather jacket already so bring it out of the back of the closet.  Other leather items can include pants and skirts. For bonus points, find a leather item with mixed materials; i.e. leather and fur.

5.       70’s: The 70’s/Boho look is still in ladies. Keep your long dresses, mid length skirts and flared jeans.

6.       Metal Chokers: Clean, sleek, collar necklaces in silver or gold are the statement piece of choice.

7.       Chunky Knit Sweaters: We should all have one of these in our closets already. They can be dressed up or down and look great with jeans

8.        Structured Hand Bags: This means sleek, polished, lady-like bags in any color. Snakeskin is a great choice.

9.       Plaid: Try a plaid shirt or skirt. Make it feel more feminine with heels or pretty jewelry

10.   For your face and hair: Look for metallic eye shadow, jewel toned nails (including purple, green and blue) and effortless hair (messy buns and non-perfect waves).

Fall 2011

Fall 2011

Overall, this upcoming season is looking pretty good. I love that bright colors are showing up in
stores still and we can incorporate some of our summer clothes into the cooler months. All of
these styles can fit in easily into anyone’s wardrobe no matter your age, body type, or budget.
Good luck girls!
