Now with all this time on my hands, I saw this picture on Pinterest and think I am going to switch up my porch this spring. Love topiaries.

Where I Have Been...
In case you were wondering where I have been, I had surgery on Wednesday to remove a small mass in my chest. I will elaborate more later but thats what I have been doing. Now I am trying to enjoy a little down time while recovering. Glad I got a MacBook for Christmas and tons of magazines!

Spring, Please Come Soon
We have had a very mild winter here in Texas compared to the last two. This weekend we had temperatures in the high 70's. Weather is such a tease. I am ready for spring!

Golden Globes and a Winner
I am so behind on my movie going and we don't have HBO, Cinemax, Showtime so I haven't seen half the stuff people were winning awards for last night. However, you didn't have to see any of these shows or movies to appreciate the fashion.
Can I just say, I am kind of sick of the prom-ish, boring, yards of taffeta gowns that stars have been wearing for the last few years. I am not saying they aren't pretty and the people in those dresses usually look really good: they are just boring.
Examples:
I am not saying these are awful, well SMG tie dye is pretty bad, but just ok. These women are gorgeous and I just think with all the people and creativity behind them they could do better.

Spring Makeup Trends
To go along with my quasi New Year's resolution of wanting to spice up my makeup routine, I have been searching through Spring makeup trends.
Here is what I have discovered: Spring makeup is exactly what you think it should be. Fresh, tan, rosy cheeks etc. So I vow to try one of these trends in the upcoming season.
Red Lips. I like this picture because her lips and blue eyes are the only thing that stand out. Everything else should be minimal.
Cat Eyes. This is a fun trend. This picture is also very minimal with a slight cat eye curve.
Silver Metallic. This one seems easy enough, just sweep some silver shadow over your lids. I would have to wear more blush than this chick.
Bronze. I use this all year around with blush on the apples on my cheeks. I may try it just alone this Spring.

A Little Stencil and a Giveaway
I have been thinking about doing a little stenciling above our fireplace in our den ever since we had the house painted. It is a small room and a small fireplace so I thought that a stencil would be a great way to change it up. So the fabulous people at Cutting Edge Stencils contacted me and asked me to review one of their stencils. Perfect timing!
Here is the before picture of the mantle
So now I just had to pick a stencil. This is hard. There are so many great stencils and each one gives a different look. I finally decided on the Marrakech All Over Stencil. Since this is a bold pattern I decided to use a metallic gold paint from Martha Stewart.
It was surprisingly easy to stencil. I would definitely recommend the clip on stencil level. It makes it really easy to make sure your stencil is level. You will also need a dense foam roller, a small stencil brush or just a cheap foam brush(for small areas), paint, extra wall cover paint (for little mistakes), painters tape and patience.
The stencils comes with instructions with photos for you visual learners.
If you also look on their website they have detailed instructions: here
If you need a video: Click here
I love the results. It looks a lot like wallpaper but cheaper! And if you get sick of it you can just paint over it and stencil something else. I also have another idea in mind: my sister moved to a new apartment and I thought it would be great if we used the stencils on some white curtains. Panels can be expensive so this is a great alternative. Keep checking back and I will show off the stenciled curtains asap!
Now for the giveaway.

My Supplies
I picked a place to start and taped the stencil. I chose the middle of the wall and worked out. The black thing at the bottom is the stencil level.
Another view
I didn't have any action shots because I was home alone. If you look close, there are a few spots that bled. I just pushed too hard so be light handed. I also didn't wash the stencil off enough. I have to admit I have no patience when it comes to craft projects.
The bleeding can be easily fixed with the extra wall color paint.
